1. Consider starting slow. Remember that the faster the dance, the more challenge you might have if you are brand new to dancing. It is really important to me as your teacher that you to enjoy your time on the dance floor. If you choose to start with a faster dance, it is still very do-able as long as you remember to implement a greater portion of patience with yourself.

2. Shoes are not required for any beginner class but you need the right tool for the job and they do help you dance better. Please do not make the mistake of wearing rubber soled shoes to your lesson. You will find that rubber soles will make you stick to the flooring and flip-fops will fall off your feet. If you are not ready to buy shoes yet, it's okay. You can dance in your socks until you are ready for an upper level class!

3. Your first few lessons may feel a bit overwhelming. Don't let that stop you. Everyone feels that way at first because you are getting use to how the class is formatted and you are learning something new! After a few months things so smooth out and you will be able to relax and enjoy it more fully. Just remember that the first month is the generally the hardest. Once you get through that, every thing else gets slow-churned into cream!!!

4. Dancers wear all kinds of things to class. Some come in blue jeans and others wear skirts. It really does not matter what you wear as much as how comfortable you are. Try to wear something that will allow you to move freely.

5. If you don't have a partner, don't worry. Singles are always welcome!

6. Please remember to practice. You can't learn anything unless you are willing to practice. If you are neglecting the practice events, you are only shooting yourself in your own foot. Practice proves more efficient learning!

7.  Incorporate all three modalities of your learning options: group class, private lessons and practice events. If you leave out even one of these things, you will be stopping your progression. It is suggested that you take a group class first and use a few private lessons to smooth out what you have learned as you go. Your practice events will the the vehicle that will take what you have been learning in your class and private lessons to lock down in your memory.

8. Don't' compare yourself to those who are dancing in the same room with you. They are like honey bees in your garden......They can be more afraid of you than you are of them! Be positive and patient with yourself!

9. The two most important attributes to becoming a wonderful dancer is not talent and skill...You learn skill by implementing consistency and patience in your own dancing. If you are applying consistency and patience with yourself, your new skill will create a new talent for you.

10. HAVE FUN! You have my permission!

The High School Internship Program is a program that gives those high school seniors learning experience in the field of Ballroom instruction. This program is open to  both male and female high school seniors who are interested in pursuing a dance related field, the opportunity to learn all facets of this fun and rewarding industry as a senior project. This program is open to all candidates, regardless of what dance medium they have chosen to pursue. Upon High School graduation, they are then able to enter into college with a clear understanding of what it is required to be a professional dancer without loosing their amateur status.
Students are selected in the spring and start a set course than begins in late summer. These internships continue through to high school graduation. All my time teaching and training  is donated to this program.
